Bandmaster Simon Schultz

Dr Simon Schultz was appointed Bandmaster of the Chelmsford SA Band in February 1987 and is only the band's 9th Bandmaster since it was formed in 1886. Under his leadership the band have travelled extensively both in this country and abroad with visits to the Salvation Army corps at Liverpool Walton, Sheringham, Gainsborough, Doncaster, Coventry City, Worthing, York, Ashington , Bedford and most recently North Shields. The band have also been involved in a number of recordings for the BBC as well as producing two CDs in conjunction with the Songsters at Chelmsford.

Other highlights of his time in charge of the band include the band taking part in a Jazz festival at the Snape Maltings, Suffolk, with international jazz trumpeter Digby Fairweather. In May 1995, Simon was pleased to take the band to Almelo, Holland where the band were privileged to take part in the town's Liberation commemorations.

Originally from the Leytonstone Salvation Army corps, where he was also Bandmaster, Simon is a GP by profession. He is married to Joanne and they have two children, Jodie and Daniel. Simon is, in his spare time, the Songster pianist and on winter Saturday afternoons is to be found playing football, along with some other members of the band, as part of a Christian team in a local league. He is also very keen on motor racing, golf and enjoys winter sports especially skiing.
